Do you like listening to podcasts? A podcast is like a radio show that you can listen to. Podcasts cover a whole range (lots of kinds of) different topics, and there’s a podcast out there for everyone! I love listening to podcasts while I’m cleaning the house or going on a walk. If you’re learning English, there are many podcasts to listen to in order to improve your English. Listening to a podcast can help you hear different accents in English, as well as listen to how English is spoken by native speakers. You can also let a podcast run (play) in the background while you’re doing something. It’s nice to listen to something passively (not giving it your full attention) sometimes.
If you want to take the next step with your language skills, here are five podcasts to listen to if you want to improve your English. Keep reading to find out why we love them!
The Dollop
The Dollop is one of my absolute favorite podcasts to listen to. Each week, they talk about a weird, silly, or strange moment in American history and talk about it. They make a lot of jokes. It’s a very fun podcast to listen to, and you always learn something when listening to it. Whether they’re talking about crazy sports fans, protests about unexpected events, or explorers, the hosts of The Dollop always have a joke up their sleeves (to tell). They always manage to brighten my day (put me in a good mood, make me happy).
NPR
NPR isn’t technically a podcast, but it’s a radio station. NPR, or National Public Radio, is great listen to if you like to keep up on the news. They cover many different topics, including current events, global news, culture, human interest pieces, and music reviews. There’s something for everyone, and is a great station to play in the background while doing other things.
Uncover
Do you like true crime? There seems to be a boom in (explosion of) true crime content at the moment, such as books, documentaries, and podcasts. One true crime podcast I like to listen to is called Uncover. It’s a Canadian podcast where each season focuses (looks at) a different case or topic. The episodes are not very long, so if you don’t have a lot of time or don’t want to listen to hour-long episodes, then this could be an ideal podcast to listen to. Uncover looks at things like cults, missing person cases, or the Satanic Panic. Do these things interest you? Then give it a listen!
RABBITS
Podcasts aren’t always about true events. Sometimes they tell a fictional (made up) story that you can play in parts. One fictional podcast that is very popular is called RABBITS. It tells the story of a girl who goes missing and an ancient, mysterious game that just may have something to do with the destruction of the universe. RABBITS is a good podcast to play if you’re looking for something fun, interesting, and easy.
Ologies
Are you interested in science? Then Ologies might be right up your alley (be something you like). Ologies is a podcast where the host, Alie Ward, talks to different scientists about many different scientific topics, such as ecology, maritime archaeology, or ornithology. It’s a smart, funny podcast where you just may learn something in addition to improving your English!
